ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (APP): Spokesman for Utility Stores Corporation (USC), Inayat Ullah Daula, on Friday said that the Prime Minister had instructed the preparation of a relief package for the public at Utility Stores.
Talking to PTV news, he said that the subsidy for beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) had been significantly increased.
He said that under this package, essential items like sugar, pulses, and flour were included in the subsidy.
The monthly financial assistance for beneficiaries, which was Rs 2,734 last year, will now be raised to Rs 3,650, an increase of approximately 23 percent.
He said that last year, the subsidy under the BISP stood at Rs 35 billion, with Rs 30 billion allocated under the Prime Minister’s Relief Package and Rs 5 billion for the Ramadan Package.
This year, the Prime Minister has increased the budget to Rs 60 billion, with Rs 50 billion allocated for the Relief Package and Rs 10 billion for the Ramadan Package, he added.
He said that the Prime Minister aimed to provide relief in all sectors, with a focus on producing subsidized essential goods to support the lower-income population.
The spokesperson also mentioned that as a member of the National Price Monitoring Committee, he had observed that inflation was relatively low. All essential items were available in good quality at Utility Stores, he added.
